We're reasonably confident Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar has been killed in an IDF strike in Gaza.
Updates
According to Hamas sources, Sinwar was killed by an Israeli mortar shell attack.
We listen to anyone who has something interesting to say: Hamas, Hassan, Harris, or Trump… just don't be a useless market analyst repeating the same talking points.
According to Hamas, at the time of his killing, Sinwar was above ground, fighting the IDF. This is corroborated by photographic evidence circulating on Israeli social media. No hostages were in his vicinity during the fighting.
Khaled Meshaal is almost certain to succeed Sinwar as the new leader of Hamas. At least there will be a known and familiar point of contact in any future hostage negotiations.
Overall, this is another tactical or symbolic victory for Israel, but it doesn’t significantly change the broader strategic calculus in the conflict. The war has been expanded too far beyond Gaza.
